Day 3 of Project 365…
It is difficult to find much colour in the Gardens in January, but there is one rose bush sporting some really nice red berries (hips) which stand out nicely against the snowy background.
A beautiful rainy day today… yes, I just used beautiful and rainy in the same sentence! They say gardens are more beautiful in the rain, and you know… they’re right! Today I strolled through the Gardens with an umbrella in hand, with beautiful sax music hanging in the air as Mark Towers provided this Sunday’s edition of “Music in the Gardens”. And it was an amazing walk. The scents are stronger, the colours more vibrant… and then, that magical after-rain occurance of “raindrops on roses”. As the showers ended and the skies brightened a bit, Gardens visitors descended on the rose garden and started shooting! Here are some of my shots…
Have a look at some other raindrop garden photos at my Shutterbug site.
Imagine yourself, on Friday evening, strolling through the Gardens, surrounded by the perfume of thousands of roses, sipping wine, nibbling on cheese & crackers, and enjoying the sultry sax sounds of Mark Towers… doesn’t it sound like a wonderful experience?
That’s what Wine & Roses is all about – a unique experience in the most beautiful of atmospheres. Your Wine & Roses ticket includes wine (two glasses), nibbles, live music and, of course, admission to the Historic Gardens. Tickets are $20, and a reduced rate of $15 if you have a Season Pass. (This event is limited to age 19 and over).
The Gardens have been specially licensed for this event, so you can stroll the grounds with your wine in hand! We are promised a beautiful evening, but if by chance we do get a little rain, the event will continue as planned, so bring an umbrella and enjoy the experience in any case.
