Garden Experiences

The Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens is home to a variety of unique events and activities in addition to the every day Garden experience. In 2023 we join our garden colleagues across the country to help you Live the Garden Life with a variety of activities and programming throughout the season. Further activities will be added to our list as the season progresses – check back often!

April 22 – May 7, 9am-5pm Magnificent Magnolias
The beauty and sweet scent of an impressive community-wide magnolia collection awaits you in the Historic Gardens and throughout Annapolis Royal!

May 6, 9am-5pm Season Opening
Experience spring in the Gardens as we open for the 2023 operating season.

May 14, 9am-5pm Mother’s Day
Give your mom the gift of flowers by treating her to a day in the Gardens.

May 26 – June 18 Canada’s Garden Days
Discover the ever changing highlights of late spring in the Historic Gardens as we celebrate the role and benefits of gardens in our communities during Canada’s Garden Days.

June 15, 4pm Guided Photo Walk (Nature Photography Day)
Bring along your camera and join us for a guided photo walk on #naturephotographyday

June 17, 9am-5pm Canada’s Garden Day
Join us for plant inspired activities and events as we celebrate gardens and gardening.

June 18, 9am-5pm Father’s Day
Treat Dad to some family activities in the Gardens.

June 21, 9am-5pm #nationalselfieday in the Gardens
Bring along your camera and grab some great selfies at our designated “Selfie Spots”.

June 23 & 24 All the Garden’s a Stage (evening, various start times)
Take A Midsummer Night’s Stroll through the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens and enjoy excerpts of Shakespeare’s works along the way! (Much Ado About Nothing – The Tempest – Macbeth – King Lear – Hamlet – & more)

June 24 – July 9, 9am-5pm Celebrating Roses
Join us for tours & activities in celebration of one of the largest rose collections in Eastern Canada!

July 1, 9am-5pm Canada Day ~ Gardens Style!
Head in to the Gardens for some family fun in celebration of Canada’s Birthday.

July 7-9, 9am-5pm Pride Festival in Annapolis Royal
We join our community in celebrating equality, diversity and inclusion during Annapolis Royal’s annual Pride Festival.

July 15 – 5pm-7pm An Evening of Wine & Roses
Enjoy live music, hors d’oeuvres and a glass of local wine as you stroll through thousands of magnificent rose blossoms in the Historic Gardens.

July 15-30, 9am-5pm Dreaming of Daylilies
Be inspired by the vibrant colours of our pondside daylily collection, interspersed with the cool blues of hydrangeas.

August 4-7, 9am-5pm Natal Day Weekend ~ Gardens Style!
Take in some music and family fun in celebration of Annapolis Royal’s Natal Day.

August 7, 2pm-5pm Natal Day Homecoming
Drop by after the Grand Street Parade to meet up with old friends, enjoy music and entertainment, see the Gardens and grab a refreshment at the Elm Tree Café. A Natal Day tradition!

August 1-15, 9am-5pm Explore the Cradle of Acadie
Explore the past as the spotlight shines on the Acadian House and 17th century life in the Annapolis Royal area, once the Cradle of Acadie.

August 12-20, 9am-5pm Inspired by Art
Enjoy art themed exhibits and activities with a natural emphasis on art in the garden!

August 19, 4pm Guided Photo Walk (World Photo Day)
Bring along your camera and join us for a guided photo walk on #worldphotoday

August 19-20, 9am-5pm Paint the Town ~ Gardens Style
Watch artists at work painting their favourite scenes in Annapolis Royal and the Gardens, then buy your favourites! An Arts Council (ARCAC) event.

August 26 – September 4, 9am-5pm Innovations in Edible Gardening
Get ideas for your own garden through tours and activities focused on edible gardening in the backyard, with the Innovative Garden serving as inspiration.

September 2-4, 9am-5pm Family Weekend in the Gardens
Head to the Gardens on Labour Day Weekend for some family time before the kids head back to school. Be sure to plan on taking some family photos at the same time.

September 10, 9am-5pm Grandparents Day
Bring Nanny & Grampie to enjoy family activities with you in the Gardens.

October 14, 10am North American Conker Championship
GO NUTS as you try your hand at Conkers, a centuries old British game using chestnuts on strings. Become a champion! Fun for all ages. Information: http://www.annapolisconkers.wordpress.com

October 14-29, 9am-5pm A Symphony of Fall Colour
Spend time in the Gardens in late October to enjoy the best of fall colour in a garden setting.

EVERY DAY (June – Sept) – Sculpture in the Gardens

In addition to some permanent artwork, each year different sculptural pieces are selected by a jury of the artists’ peers for display within the Gardens. The artists have graciously loaned and installed their sculptures, resulting in a unique marriage of contemporary sculpture and historic gardens. Some of the work is for sale – please ask our staff for details.

EVERY DAY – Scavenger Hunts for Kidz

The Gardens are a great place for kids – they enjoy the simple things in nature. To keep your youngsters engaged, ask for a scavenger hunt activity.

Guided Tours

Our terrific Volunteer Guides are pleased to offer guided walks in the Gardens. Tour schedule is dependent on availability of volunteers. Please ask upon arrival.

Guest Speakers

From time to time we have expert speakers available to us on a variety of horticultural topics. Those will be listed here as they are booked.

Weddings & Special Gatherings:

You may wish to use the Historic Gardens as a venue for a special occasion… anniversary party, wedding, or family reunion. Call us!
