Project 365 HG – Marble Artifact.
Day 52 found me at a very interesting presentation by Rebecca Duggan, Parks Canada Cultural Resource Manager for Mainland Nova Scotia. She discussed the archaeology of Fort Anne National Historic Site, Annapolis Royal. The site was used by the Mi’kmaq, the Scots, the French and the British (in fact there were five forts built on this piece of land over time) and there are archaeological remains from each of these groups.
She had numerous artifacts from the 17th and 18th century, and this marble caught my eye. When you can touch and feel objects that were handled by people who lived here hundreds of years ago… well that’s pretty special!
The Acadian House at the Historic Gardens is a reproduction of a 17th century home, and the Gardens are built on old Acadian property. I wonder what treasures are in the ground underneath all our lovely plants?
